The recent outbreak of COVID-19 “Coronavirus” has left our communities in a place that is unusual for everyone. Many families are spending the next couple of months at-home and it’s not going to take long before people start bickering and becoming stir-crazy.
As such, we wanted to provide some ideas we are going to test out to remain sane at-home until COVID-19 runs its course. As unnerving as this may be for some, it is also an amazing opportunity to spend more time together as a family!
Activity 1: Try Out Some Video Games
Despite the fact that we are a martial arts school, we love playing video games! Many of your kids probably enjoy video games too (a bit too much, maybe?) but this could be a good chance to try them for yourself!
Although some games may not be family-friendly, there are plenty of games that everyone can enjoy. Games like Minecraft, Overcooked, and Mario Kart are great for bonding and having some fun while we are doing our part in keeping the spread of COVID limited.
Activity 2: Have Some Cooking Time
More time at home means more meals need to be put together for the family! Rather than have your kids be getting in the way while you try and make food, have them be part of the process! Give them tasks they can handle and making it a family activity! Answer questions they have and help them learn to cook for themselves so that they can have a leg-up as they get older!
Activity 3: Find a New Hobby
Amidst the social distancing and closures that are taking place, many business and sports programs are releasing virtual classes to the community to help during these times. Many of these are free or discounted and they provide the opportunity to try something new out from the comfort of your home! We released an online, 4-week program on Teachable and we know other businesses in our community are doing the same thing. Take advantage now while you have a little bit of extra time.
The media is on fire right now with everything COVID-19 related. Opinions are ranging from “this is nothing” to “the world is ending.” This is a great opportunity for us to not just distance ourselves for physical health, but also distance ourselves to recharge mentally and emotionally. Enjoy your extra time with family and you will emerge from this even more bonded than before!
